Become a Volunteer Ambassador

Want to use your skills for wild horse protection? AWHC is currently recruiting volunteers for our Volunteer Ambassador Program to assist us in leading federal, state, and local legislative and policy issues across the country!  As a volunteer Ambassador, we will work with you to develop professional relationships with legislators to advance initiatives to protect wild horses and burros and educate the public through outreach, including speaking at schools and community organizations.

Volunteer Ambassador Role Description

Advocacy — Actively engage in legislative advocacy to protect wild horses and
burros

  • Meet with your legislators, in-person or virtually and take action on key policy issues
  • Build a coalition of advocates in your community
  • Share AWHC alerts and encourage others to take action
  • Register to vote
  • Participate in AWHC Lobby Day
  • Submit letters to the editor
  • Phone banking when necessary

Outreach — Enhance public awareness about the plight of wild horses and burros

  • Public education, including tabling at horse-related, farm sanctuary, or environmental events
  • Presenting and speaking at events, including schools, community organizations, etc.
  • Use social media in a positive, impactful way to educate your network

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Join the AWHC Volunteer Facebook group to meet other volunteers, ask questions, get the most up to date action alerts, share stories & photos of meetings and other volunteer-related activities
  • Help recruit volunteers in your district
  • Attend AWHC or HHC webinars when possible
  • Additional duties requested by the American Wild Horse Campaign, which may include assisting with presentations in your area, drafting action alerts, identifying potential opportunities for AWHC to engage and various similar duties
  • Representing the organization at local events
  • Testifying at legislative and/or regulatory hearings
  • Submitting public comments
  • Attending town hall meetings
  • Must have a reliable computer and internet access
