ELKO – The Bureau of Land Management this week concluded a wild horse emergency gather on the Antelope Valley Herd Management Area located on private land near Boone Springs, approximately 40 miles southwest of Wendover.
The BLM gathered 96 wild horses (46 studs, 35 mares, 15 foals) and removed 94 that were transported to Indian Lakes Off-Range Corral, Fallon. One stud was released back onto the range. One 13-year-old mare died at the location of the gather, which began a month ago.
The Appropriate Management Level for the Antelope Valley Herd Management Area is 155-259 adult wild horses. As of March 1, the BLM estimated the population at 1,320 (not including foals born this year).
