Mustang Rescue Underway

The downside of adoption: These photos tell a sad story that illustrates why we fight so hard to keep wild horses wild and free on the range where they belong. Far too many adoptions of wild horses fail, sending untold numbers of American mustangs into the slaughter pipeline every year. These lovely horses were rescued after being removed from the Virginia Range in 2014 and placed with a couple in Alabama who had a small sanctuary. The couple got divorced and the horses ended up being sold to a kill buyer in Alabama who also operates the Bastrop kill pen in Louisiana.

As soon as AWHC was informed, we mobilized and purchased the horses back from the kill buyer. Then the wonderful Matt and Palomino Armstrong of Chilly Pepper - Miracle Mustang agreed to drive all the way to Alabama to fetch the horses from the kill pen and bring them back to Nevada. There are five horses and some are in rough shape.

The 5 rescued mustangs taking a break in Texas.

They'll enjoy some TLC at Chilly Pepper's sanctuary in Nevada until we find permanent placement for them. We're raising money to cover the costs of rescuing, transporting and caring for these horses and bringing them back to good health.

They've been through so much, and barely escaped the most horrific of fates... so please help if you can.
