TRI Officials Call for Governor To Take Action to Save Program
Reno, NV (November 8, 2017) ...On Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center (TRI), the American Wild Horse Campaign (AWHC) will release the results of the first year of humane birth control program conducted under the Virginia Range Horse Cooperative Agreement with the State of Nevada. The presentation of data will include the custom created database system, the number of horses documented on the range, description of the birth control program and the number of births successfully prevented. The Nevada Department of Agriculture refused to meet with AWHC to accept the presentation of this data which represents the first year results of the Cooperative Agreement. It is fitting to host this presentation at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center (TRI) which owns one-third (100,000+ acres) of the 300,000 acre Virginia Range.
TRI officials have been very supportive of AWHC's Cooperative Agreement with the State of Nevada writing a letter to Governor Brian Sandoval urging him to rescind the 30-day termination notice sent by the State to AWHC on October 25, 2017. TRI officials will speak about the importance of this humane birth control program and the strong support for the program by businesses opening operations in Nevada.

The American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign (dba American Wild Horse Campaign, or AWHC) was notified on October 25, by the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) that it was terminating all Cooperative Agreements with AWHC and its work operating a successful humane fertility control program for the Virginia Range horses and preventing those horses from entering the slaughter pipeline. Through this public/private partnership, AWHC works with local wild horse advocacy organizations including the Virginia Range Wildlife Protection Association (Virginia City Highlands), Wild Horse Preservation League (Dayton) and Wild Horse Connection (Reno).
