POSITION SUMMARY

The American Wild Horse Campaign Special Projects Coordinator manages range-based projects within the State of Nevada and other states as needed. This is a full-time non-exempt remote office-based position, located in the northwest Nevada area. Hours may include nights and weekends for public meetings. This position reports to AWHC’s Nevada State Director.

The Special Projects Coordinator will be responsible for projects that pertain to the wild horses and burros primarily within the state of Nevada. These include –

  • Manage projects under the direction of the Nevada State Director that are related to the safety and protection of the wild horses and their habitat within the entire state of Nevada.
  • Support wild horse-related public issues and work to develop collaborative solutions.
  • Support and maintain the expansion of AWHC’s relationships in Nevada with business, government and community organizations and opinion leaders
  • Manage and maintain other projects as needed throughout the project management cycle

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Virginia Range Development Mitigation

  • Assist the Nevada State Director by leading projects to mitigate impacts of development on wild horses in and around the Virginia Range, including habitat conservation, migratory corridor protection, and public safety measures, including fencing.
  • Make presentations on humane solutions at government hearings and educational meetings for the public.
  • Design and implement collateral for public education, which includes signage, presentations, and informational sheets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with residents, government officials, business owners, and other stakeholders to foster collaborative solutions for wild horse protection.

WHIMs Database Data Steward

  • Work with the Fertility Control Program Coordinator and volunteers to maintain the WHIMs database ensuring standardization of information and events for all underlying users.
  • Ensure standardization of data entries into the database which include updates and removals.
  • Assist team with horse identifications and complete data clean-up as necessary.
  • Other data entry duties as assigned.

Community Relations

  • Assist to secure expanded private property owner permission for Program activities by utilizing online resources to identify property owners and outreach to landowners to request property access permission.
  • Maintain relationships with participating private property owners and promptly address any issues that arise.
  • Attend public meetings as needed, maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders and public officials.
  • Identify and attend community events and public meetings as needed to promote the value of wild horses to the public for enhanced engagement in their care and management.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of and appreciation for horses with an interest in wildlife and environmental protection.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated individual that has strong organizational and people skills with an eye for detail.
  • Strong knowledge of Google Suite, database management, presentation creation, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong public speaker.
  • Project Management background is ideal
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
