CARSON CITY, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Advocates gathered at the Capitol building in Carson City on Wednesday to protest the transfer of about 3,000 wild horses to a private entity.
The Nevada Board of Agriculture voted 8-1 in favor of the agreement last month, which does not contain any provisions against the slaughter of the wild horses.
The agenda item says ownership of the Virginia Range would be transferred "to a non-profit animal advocate organization through a request for proposal process," but advocates say there is no set definition for such an organization.
News 4's Miles Buergin spoke with protesters to learn more about their opposition to the agreement.
