Letter: PZP can help wild horses live free

Editor:

As a longtime PZP contraceptive vaccine researcher and wild horse advocate, I do recognize that treating mares with the PZP contraceptive vaccine makes them a little less wild. And it’s challenging to ask what “wild” means on a planet where human impacts are felt from pole to pole, notably so on the western rangelands inhabited by wild horses. The horses, though, care less about philosophy than about remaining free, with their bands, on healthy rangelands. If applied thoughtfully, PZP can help them do that.
